Y Swim Team is for you!

What is it? YMCA Swim Team is a developmental swim program taught by trained coaches to improve swimmers’ skill level and endurance, and to promote a healthy lifestyle. Our program embraces the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, promoting progression rather than intense competition.

Who can join? The YMCA welcomes members ages 5-18 years old. Membership options are: inclusion in a Dual or Family membership; Youth membership for ages 10-17; Student membership for students ages 18-21.

What are the swim requirements? Participants must be able to swim 25 yards without stopping. Children enrolled in YMCA Swim Academy lessons would be in Fish level or higher, or in Red Cross lessons, Level 3 or higher.

I’m new to YMCA Swim Team – how can I learn more? A parent orientation meeting will be held at the beginning of the season to explain how YMCA Swim Team works. Check with Member Services to find the date and time of your orientation.

When is the swim season? YMCA Swim Team season starts  September 19th 2011-March 2012

How often is swim practice? YMCA Fall Swim Team offers 4 practices a week. Summer session offers up to 5 practices.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 2 practices a week to show progress.

Where and when are swim meets? Meets are scheduled against other teams in the Minnesota State League –typically at other Y’s in the Metro Area on Saturdays. Swimmers may participate in as few or as many meets as they wish, but to swim in the end-of-the-season Sections Meet, a swimmer must swim in three meets. PLUS the YMCA SwimTeams in the Twin Cities area will be holding an Invitational Meet –Dates and location to beannounced.

What is the fee? The fee for YMCA Fall Swim Team is $300, with a 15% discount for additional family members. The fee also covers eight swim meet entry fees, including the YMCA Invitational Meet. Swimmers must be YMCA members to participate; a number of options are available. For those Swimmers wishing to join the Marlins Swim Team after a school sports season has finished or until the boys high school/middle school season starts, the Late Entry Fee is a reduced fee.  Financial Assistance is offered to qualifying applicants within available resources.

How can I volunteer? YMCA Swim Team has a number of volunteer opportunities including volunteering at swim meets or social gatherings, or helping the team with administrative support. If interested, contact the swim team coach. It’s a great way to meet great people and be part of the team.
